Hey there, thanks for stopping by. You came from our very first, home server. Aaaah Feathermoon.
i chose to leave WoW due to how things were changing within the community and within the game. i will use a term i only just learned myself recently, so forgive me if it's not used quite accurately. However, the 'Woke Crowd' has been taking over WoW. It, i found, was ruining RP, as you couldn't turn around without someone jumping down your throat about something not being politically correct, or whatever, like that. Too much RL crap was being dragged into the fantasy world.
Additionally, and what was the last straw for me, is when i was 'muted' on
Christmas day, by the GMs, for two weeks. i had been given ZERO warning (as they are supposed to do according to their own rules), and just a very vague email after the fact. Anyone who knows my, would know i'm the kinda person who started to censor my own words during RP, for example censoring out the 'F' word, as not to 'offend' anyone. Which, in turn, ended up making people laugh and get irritated anyway, for doing it!
i couldn't RP in a game where i was scared of getting reported for scratching my ass the wrong way. That is what it has become.
After research, it had come down to FFXIV or ESO. FF seemed like a popular choice, as i knew post guildies who had gone there. However, i couldn't bring myself, in the end, to be fighting overgrown chibi characters and such that FF is known for. It just wasn't the right atmosphere for what i was seeking. Also, its rating was only T.
ESO, i found, had the closest feel to WoW, world wise. And, a large selling factor for me, ESO is rated M. (That, and you don't have to pay to play it, unlike FF)
The graphics are much, much more realistic than WoW. Which was a big change, however, for me, a nice one. Getting used to the movement was a learning curve, but worth it.
This is making me want to make a post of the differences i've found between the two games... may just do that.
Anyway- back to the meat of your post.
How is ESO for deep, immersive RP.
That, i can't answer, really, just yet. In ESO there is only one mega server. So, all non RPers are dumped in with the RPers.
You can, find open world RP, i suppose, if you know where to look. However, it's my hope, to find a handful of people who want the Cheshire Cat experience of being IC always, and then we would have heavy RP no matter where we are. (Plus guild chat being IC, as always).
i have seen open world RP. However, when i tried to join, they were not very inclusive in drawing my character in. Either out of rudeness or they just hadn't ever learned that skill. (
THIS is how i try to educate RPers in that respect, to always be open for other RPers.) i've been told, that many 'just' RP in their private homes. While that is all well and good, it closes off opportunity for outside RP, and not what the Cats are about.
The way the game is set up questing wise, it helps you to become MUCH more fully immersed than WoW. All quests are voiced, so you get to hear what the quest giver is saying to you. With that, you gain their inflections and personalities. There have been quests that i've been laughing out loud over, as some of the people giving them have just been so funny. i've even cried through a few quests as well, as you get to hear the emotion in their voices. It really is a new experience.
Right now, it's basically just me in the guild, unfortunately. Kat is still dealing with relearning who she is, and how to trust people. When she 'woke up' in ESO, she had no memories of her life in Azeroth. (You can read how i chose to combine WoW and ESO
HERE ) i felt it was a good meld, and, meshed surprisingly well with the main questline, as you end up with no soul and no memories and stuff like that. Plus, there is a Prince who is stealing souls from different realms and such, so, why not Azeroth?
i haven't been super active in promoting the guild in ESO yet. There is one ad up on the main ESO forum, but not done any in game notice yet. i've been dealing with a lot RL wise since the move, plus so have members. The one really active Cat, currently not ICly in the guild yet, so, not really focusing on RPing when they are in game briefly to just do dailies. Another, has RL things with work and family, so hasn't been able to officially get in either yet. SO... just me, really. i am, however, IC always, and always ready to try and spin a story with anyone interested in the guild.
This is the ground floor of the Cats, right now. Unlike a 17 year history in WoW, this is our first year in ESO. Things are going to be slow, it's a whole new generation where MANY do not WANT to be IC always... Seems many just haven't the patience or imagination for that anymore, or f things don't happen ZOMGRIGHTNOW they lose interest and move on. But now is when new members get to help and shape and build things.
It's hard. It is. i am still here though, and so long as i am around, the guild still is, and if i can find others with the same passion for RP as me, the Cats will grow and thrive again.
