Cats tend to be snippy to people, and ignore outsiders. That's fine. OOCly people may not know that and take our IC ignoring them as OOC rudeness and cliquishness. As a general rule, if you see someone come up to your character, interact with them. You wouldn't just stand there if a stranger approached you on the street and stared at you, or whatever. You would LOOK at them, or even move away, or say something to them. The same goes here. If your character doesn't want anything to do with the stranger, there are a number of emotes you can write to indicate this in a polite RP fashion. Example: Kat pauses her conversation a moment to cast a wary eye toward the strange gnome who had appeared. This opens an RP door for the person wishing to engage to reply. Always leave open doors. As role-players, it's our duty.Kat smirked heavily, glancing back to <insert name of who she was talking with> . "We should probably leave. Seems doorstops are growing curious. Can't have them eavesdropping.**OR** Kat raises a brow, noting the gnome has not left. Her jaw twitches and she nods to them, "Something ye want?"You can of course write your own RP responses, KEY being you write something. Don't ignore people trying to initiate RP. That's rude and poor role-player form. Even if you just have your character do something to acknowledge the other person in a round about way, it's an OOC nod of acknowledgement.

I CANNOT stress this enough.
Always, always keep the door open for potential RP.
I've come across at least three open world RP gatherings in taverns, where ppl were RPing. Not a single one ever even acknowledged my character. Not a simple glance, nothing, to acknowledge my presence.
I understand, that likely most people in ESO have specific times to RP, not being heavy RPers. However, that is no excuse to blatantly ignore others.
The Cheshire Cats will NEVER do that. We WILL bring all-inclusive RP to ESO.
You never know what kind of day someone has had, how someone is... Maybe they are super shy in RL, and have always wanted to try to RP, and finally, one day, see some people playing and garner up all their courage to try.... and........ No one even acknowledges them. That thought breaks my heart.
Always encourage someone who is trying to RP. Don't ignore them. Your acknowledgement could mean the difference between a new role-player joining the world of RP....or not.
There are so few of us left.... Let's always lift up, support, and encourage each other.
