Humanity in this case is how human your character is. How you envision them to be.
Cheshire Cats stereotypically may have sort of low humanities. If there is ever a time when your character does something that is way out of the norm (much more evil them they normally would do) we may need to do a humanity check. If you fail, your character will lose a point of their humanity and sink more into evil.
Not sure how to rate your character's humanity? Read the following examples and see how your character would fair in a situation. Would they kill, help.. Laugh etc
Humanity 8-10
If you have a Humanity score ~this~ high, you are, ironically, more human than human. People with this high a Humanity often uphold strong standards, and very defines concepts of what's right and wrong, and are usually Paladins and or Priests following the Light.
Humanity 7
Most people have Humanity scores of this high. You are basically like any normal church going human. You know it's wrong to steal, wrong to hurt or kill someone...but sometimes...the speed limit is just too damned slow! Typically, just more than a little selfishness shines through. Hey, no one is perfect.
Humanity 6-5
Hey, people die, stuff breaks. You realize you need to do what you gotta do to survive, and you're fine with it. You do what you gotta do to get it. You, however, won't go out of your way to destroy one's property or end one's life, but if it should happen, you see it as the fact that Fate has certain things in store for certain people. Who are you to argue with Fate? People around this area of humanity are mildly unpleasant to be around.
Humanity 4
Hey. Some people ~gotta~ die. People at this stage begin the inevitable slide to indulge a little bit. Killing for this person is acceptable, so long as the victim deserves it. (which of course is quite subjective). You are gonna do, what you gotta do to get by. If someone gets in your way, they won't be there for long.
Humanity 2-3
The lives and property of others are irrelevant to a person this far gone. The person usually indulges in twisted pleasures and aberrant whims, which could be anything. Perversion, callous murder, mutilation of a victim and wickedness, just because it's "fun" are all the marks of a person with very low Humanity.
Humanity 1
Only very slightly sentient. If you have a Humanity this low, you teeter on the edge of oblivion. Little matters to a person this far gone, even their own desires, aside from food and rest. There is literally nothing an individual with Humanity one won't do. Many, who end up this far, find they are no longer capable of coherent speech and spend their nights gibbering on about the wildest things alone in their gore splattered homes.
Humanity 0
Must sleep. Must feed. Must kill. People at this stage are completely lost to the Nether.... They are lost, players may not use them anymore.
