Alright, gang... little lesson in role-playing effectively.
We seem to be doing ok so far.. i just wanna post this for any of you who are a little froggy on the whole idea and such. Like, if you're wondering what the hell the title means... read on...please, please read on.
Give and take. Simple concept. Works wonders in RP. Specially when we can't be there face to face in real life acting this stuff out, when someone throws a punch the other person can't stand there smugly and say, missed me, without even moving.
This sort of give and take relationship is going to be important, especially for us. Since we are quite confrontational. i want to see things run smoothly.
Couple examples, bear with me.
First Example:
We are actually gathered together or groupedโฆ Something comes up...
Jane: *Looks at Bob* this will never work, i'm leaving you goodbye. *Walks out*
Now the player who is playing Jane should NOT have said such a definitive 'WALKS OUT' why? Because that does not give Bob a chance to reply or react as he would be able to in 'RL' making the RP frustrating because then Bob is arguing OOC, 'that never would have happened!'
Jane SHOULD HAVE said...
Jane: *Looks at Bob* this will never work, i'm leaving you goodbye. *Moves to walk by him*
And then WAIT, Jane, to see what bobs reaction to the situation at hand would be.
Give and take. It can make RP that much better. Just take it slow and remember nothing is really definitive. Remember, people don't all have magic fingers and may take a moment to reply to something...
Alright, that's a small example for my first partโฆ The second involves actual and real confrontation, which i suppose i could have tied in with the above example, but i'm hungry and have chores so i'm not thinking right. Hush.
Second Example:
Character A shows up uninvited to a meeting, lets say. He is met at the door by a bouncer.
This is what should NOT happen.:
Bouncer: Hey, this is a private party, i would suggest you leave. *he slams a meaty hook into the door frame to cut off the path of the intruder.*
Intruder: *looks at the bouncer and laughs, shoving his way through, not caring.*
AAAANNN buzz buzz!! See the problem yet? No? Remember our First example... Give and Take. Now say the Intruder HAD said ....
Intruder: *looks at the bouncer and laughs as he tries to shove his way through, not caring.*
There is still a problem.
The player of the bouncer would be thinking, "No way would he be able to just walk in. i'd knock him flat! No fair!"
And he would be right.
Instances like this require a little more than the regular give and take. They require a ROLL since we can't actually duel every time there is such an issue.
This is how it should happen.
Bouncer: Hey, this is a private party, i would suggest you leave. *He slams a meaty hook into the door frame to cut off the path of the intruder.*
Intruder: *looks at the bouncer and laughs as he tries to shove his way through, not caring.*
Bouncer AND Intruder roll /random 10 .
Bouncer rolls a 3.
Intruder rolls a 6. Intruder is higher... make it sound semi believable and RP it out.

Intruder: *looks at the bouncer and laughs as he tries to shove his way through, not caring.*
Bouncer: *Tries to stop him, but the intruder manages to elbow him in the side, knocking his wind out for a moment, long enough to get by. Knowing it's his head if this guy gets in, he tries again to grab the guy and throw him out.*
This time, Bouncer rolls higherโฆ He manages to do what he said, and the intruder is thrown out.
It's up to you how far this goesโฆ But i suppose it could come down to a knife fight pretty fast and a quick ending. Point is, it's Give and Takeโฆ And it's reasonably fair.
i've run vampire games a long time, and we use the dice system to determine what happens. Course we have stats and other variablesโฆ But we don't here, so we have to make do.
Remember RP etiquette... Don't power play... remember it's just a game. Your character may fail to get in the front door... your rolls may suck. That's ok. You can't get your own way all your time... that's what RP is all about. Variables and the unknownโฆ What makes it FUN.
This all said, i hope to see more of it implemented in game... please...
Happy gaming!
