Description:
This Redguard man is often seen walking with a rigid spine, his shoulders raised, and every step filled with both discipline and purpose.
His head is adorned with tendrils of densely woven sable, slicked back to reveal just a few hints of threaded charcoal, grey and slate at the temples and roots of his hair.
The hair frames an expressive face that is often dour and lost in thought, bearing the heavy weight of an authority behind it. Lines and creases carve into his flesh, brought about more from sun and sea winds than years of harsh living.
The stern facade seems to crumble the instant a whisper of humor is heard, though the smile must fight itโs way through his strong jaw and jagged ebon beard.
His body is well-muscled and lithe in equal measure, taut like coils set to spring and honed through over a decade of regular use. His hands are rough, sandy and calloused, clearly no stranger to a hard dayโs labor.
The man is scarcely seen without the usual Redguard adornment, a blade at either his hip, paired with a rounded shield over his shoulder, or a massive curved scimitar resting on his back. Either possess signs of heavy use, but impeccable maintenance and sharpening.
Personality:
Nature:Judge
Demeanor: Bravo/Penitent
A good man who makes bad decisions and then backs himself into a wall, ready to fight his way out. He's no saint, far from perfect, but he is often in over his head due to his sense of duty, honor and justice. His experience as a captain makes him an apt judge of other people and their capabilities with the presence of authority to command them in a crisis or battle.
Those who prove to not stab him in the back and hold their own will get a lot of respect.
He understands little and less of magic matters, distrusting of anything not related to healing wounds. He's also held back by a number of prejudices he has against both places and people. But his greatest sin is Pride. He's even aware his pride in his station and duties blinded him to betrayal, proving to be still a tough vice for him to overcome.
Sathem has an opinion on just about every race in Tamriel, and only a handful are favorable. He especially has a disdain and distrust for elves, particularly Maromer given his history of fending off their raids in his lands. Likewise, any staunch allies of the Aldmeri Dominion or the Ebonheart Pact and their actions gain a disdainful scoff beneath his breath. Finally, those who worship Daedra are most heinous to him, as he refers to them candidly as "infidels".
Sathem worships the traditional Yokudan pantheon of gods, as do most in Hegathe. When left to his own devices, he is extremely rigorous in upholding his faith through actions. Meditating before combat, before stoking a forge to quench a blade, and kneeling on a tattered prayer mat in the early hours of dawn to ask for the guidance of his ancestor's gods.
He remains a sailor in spite of his piety, however. Frequent cursing, bawdy jokes and stories, and lusting after comely lasses at any port are all favorite less than virtuous pastimes of his.
RP Hooks:
-Hiring? Sathem isn't too proud to take on work as a common sell-sword, but especially has an interest in anything marine.
-Old Crewmate? Sathem is earnestly seeking those who served under him on the Basilisk to learn just what became of them, and what they know of his removal as Captain.
-Pirate? Perhaps you crossed swords with Captain at-Vhosri and his crew at some point. Come see how the mighty have fallen, or exact a little payback.
-Informant? The only thing Sathem needs more than funds and a ship beneath him is information. He's especially interested in word of dark dealings in Hammerfell's Southern Coast, be it news of crime, slave trade, or particularly Daedric cults and Necromancy. If you have specific knowledge of his fall from grace, even better.
